Do we judge people by what they say or by what they do? A man declares that in the future he won’t lose his temper. A woman says that she’s going to stop being harsh and critical of others. A teenager promises not to drive so fast. All three vow to start praying daily. Do we believe them? We might be skeptical until there is some behavior that backs up those words. There is a popular saying, “Actions speak louder than words.” James expresses the very same thought when he says, “I will show you my faith by what I do” (James 2:18). Your words to God will be empty if your faith does not move you to action. Your good intentions are pointless if not backed up by deeds. It is not enough to just profess faith. How has your faith impacted the way you live? What good deeds did your faith prompt you to do last week? If God could not see into your heart, could He still see your faith by what you do? Let us strive to show God our faith. Resolve to demonstrate your faith in the way that is the most convincing—your actions!
